Have you ever asked yourself this question?
“Something that happened 2,000 years ago — what does it have to do with me today?”
Let me answer that with one simple illustration.
A Father Who Secretly Paid Off the Debt
A son had fallen into a debt so enormous he could never repay it. But his father secretly paid off every last bit of it. The son didn’t know yet. The debt was already gone. But the moment the son found out and accepted it — from that moment on, he lived as a completely free man.
This is exactly what the cross of Jesus is.
- The debt = our sin
- The father secretly paying it off = the cross of Jesus
- The son accepting that fact = faith
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
Before we knew it, before we even believed it — it was already paid.
So What Is Faith?
Faith is not making something happen that wasn’t there before. Faith is receiving what has already been accomplished.
The moment I receive that truth, His death becomes my death, and His resurrection becomes my resurrection.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
In One Sentence
Jesus’ death was finished 2,000 years ago. Faith is me receiving that finished reality today. In that moment, an event from 2,000 years ago becomes my own event — today.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” — Galatians 2:20
Ah — so this is what resurrection means. When that understanding moves from your head down into your heart, your entire life begins to change.
