Pater Brown wird vom Bischof selbst auf einen Fall angesetzt. In einer kleinen Ortschaft ist der ein Pater erschlagen worden. Vorher aber hat er etwas gefunden, dass ihn angeblich reich gemacht hat. Brown findet schnell heraus, dass aus dem Ort wirklich jeder verdächtig ist, der etwas mit dem Pater zu tun gehabt hat.
