Greed is an unreasonable or all-absorbing desire to acquire things or wealth. One test of greed is that it is never satisfied. Greed is repeatedly condemned in the Bible.

Bearing our cross does not mean wearing gunny sacks and long faces. Some people . . . wear the look of a martyr every time they hear criticism. Sometimes we deserve the criticism we receive; however, we are blessed only when men speak evil against us falsely for Christ’s sake.

How often do we lie simply because we are trying to build ourselves up in the eyes of others? How often do we gossip because we want to appear “in the know,”or because we are trying to make ourselves appear better than someone else? The Bible's command is clear: [“Have regard for good things in the sight of all men” (Romans 12:17 NKJV)].

God has not changed. His laws have not changed. He is still a God of love and mercy But He is also a God of righteousness and judgment.

Just to be tender, just to be true,         Just to be glad the whole day through,         Just to be merciful, just to be mild,         Just to be trustful as a child,         Just to be gentle and kind and sweet,         Just to be helpful with willing feet,         Just to be cheery when things go wrong,         Just to drive sadness away with song,         Whether the hour is dark or bright,         Just to be loyal to God and right         Just to believe that God knows best,         Just in His promise ever to rest,         Just to let love be our daily key,         That is God’s will for you and me. Our Father and our God, You have shown me such great kindness and gentle mercy. Teach me to be gentle and kind too. Help me reach out to the lost in compassion and love to bring them gently to You through the person of Jesus Christ, through whom I pray.

Until the Good News of Jesus Christ burst onto the human scene, the word love was understood mostly in terms of seeking one’s own advantage. Loving the unlovely was incomprehensible A loving God reaching down to sinful humans was unthinkable.

God’s purpose for us is that we ought to be conformed to the image of His Son. The world may exert its pressure to deform us, but we are told to “be transformed” [Romans 12:2 NIV].

but in Heaven we will have total peace We will be completely changed when we get to Heaven—and so, too, will those we couldn’t get along with while on earth. If God can make the lion and the lamb lie down together, we can trust Him to take care of our fractured relationships as we enter our heavenly home.
