The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup” (Psalm 16:5). What do you get when you come to the Supper, you compromised, double-hearted, double-minded, befouled cur? The triune God of grace himself is your portion. One drop would be beyond an eternity of deserving, but he pours in the unending wine of his presence. The cup overflows. The cup of salvation. Christ drank down the dregs of my sin and passed back the chalice filled with his precious blood, the wine of everlasting life.

Prayer helps us to regain the proper priorities, discern biblical wisdom, and make right judgments. Without prayer, Glaspey might say, we live as temporal people with temporal values. Prayer pushes eternity back into our lives, making God ever more relevant to the way we live our lives. PRAYER PUSHES ETERNITY BACK INTO OUR LIVES, MAKING GOD EVER MORE RELEVANT TO THE WAY WE LIVE OUR LIVES.

Good speech quells chaos and produces joy and life; bad speech produces chaos and leads to despair and death." (Dan Allender & Tremper Longman)

In a mixed egalitarian/complimentarian marriage, both the husband and wife will likely treat each other according to their perceived sense of marital duties, but those duties won't be received as such. They'll be resented....people who disagree on this issue can still worship the same God, but it will be difficult for them to raise the same kids or operate the same household.

How can you look with God's eyes at a man or woman and still dehumanize him or her? You can't. How can you dangerously rush through a neighborhood or parking lot, driving recklessly, putting God's children at risk, when you are looking at the world through God's eyes? You can't. How could you sell someone drugs, steal someone's money, destroy someone's marriage or family, or demolish someone's reputation when you look at the potential victim through the eyes of a heavenly Father who is passionate about their welfare? You can't. Most sin is born out of spiritual blindness shown in a vast, ugly, forgetfulness of God.

Would that it were the reverse, with girlfriends seriously discussing with their friends their boyfriends’ weakness so that they could make a wise decision, and wives seriously defending their husbands’ honor so that they could make a lasting marriage. Unfortunately, ignoring your boyfriends’ weakness and gossiping about your husband’s failures are two sure paths to divorce.

Never look to other couples to measure your worth; look to God to fulfill your call. Don't compare yourself with other couples to measure your happiness; compare your obedience with God's design on your life to measure your faithfulness.

We must never be naive enough to think of marriage as a safe harbor from the fall . . . The deepest struggles of life will occur in the most primary relationship affected by the fall: marriage.”5

Our souls are wired for what we will never enjoy until Eden is restored in the new heaven and earth. We are built with a distant memory of Eden.”6
