In the Tabernacle there were no seats. The Israelites didn’t go there to sit and be ministered to, and they certainly didn’t go there for entertainment. They went there to worship God and serve Him. If they had a meeting for any other purpose, they had it somewhere else.

Exposition presupposes an exegetical process to extract the God-intended meaning of Scripture and an explanation of that meaning in a contemporary way.

The unique contribution of Bible exposition is its substantial enhancement of the listeners' comprehension of Scripture's intent. Those who listen to expository preaching have opportunity to submit to the Holy Spirit who first inspired the text as He now illumines that text to them. This is the best avenue for building up the saints. The New Testament puts heavy emphasis on using the mind as the principal avenue to Christian growth (for example, Rom. 12:2; 1 Pet. 1:13), so the preacher should do the same.

These days, when sinners seek help from churches and other Christian agencies, they are likely to be told that their problem is some emotional disorder or psychological syndrome. They might be encouraged to forgive themselves and told they ought to have more self-love and self-esteem. They are not as likely to hear that they must repent and humbly seek God’s forgiveness in Christ. That is such an extraordinary change of direction for the church that even secular observers have noticed it. Wendy

¿Qué asociación terrenal me regula?

Most women were treated as nothing more than lowly slaves or animals, and husbands often bought, traded, or even disposed of their wives at will.

Todos miramos con indignación al abogado o al juez que, a raíz de la búsqueda de riquezas particulares, distorsionan la verdad al atacar la reputación y las posesiones personales de la gente, a medida que las reducen a la pobreza. Respondemos con una indignación parecida ante el médico farsante que, por incompetente, pone en peligro la salud y la vida de alguien en busca de ganancias financieras. Esas personas merecen ser consideradas como criminales;

What two or three books on preaching have profoundly impacted your thinking? The first book that affected my thinking was John Broadus's On The Preparation and Delivery of Sermons. A second book that really hit me hard was John Stott's book The Preacher's Portrait in which he explained five New Testament words that pictured the preacher's vast responsibility and duty. Then I read D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones's Preachers and Preaching. Those three have influenced me greatly.

They see life the way it really is. When they laugh, they laugh at what is truly humorous, not what is tragic. They enjoy what is truly enjoyable—a beautiful day, a precious child, and meaningful relationships.

A lot of preaching today puts all the stress on the sinner’s hostility to God, and I fear it tends to give sinners the impression that all that is needed for salvation is their own free-will decision to stop being at odds with God. The idea of a sacrificial atonement that propitiates God has all but disappeared from the message Christians proclaim to the world.

I feel a righteous indignation toward preachers and others who want to take God off His throne and turn Him into a servant who has to meet their every demand.

Confronting issues of racial and economic prejudice is part of missions work, the work of the church. Left without a Christian response, advocates for the poor or minorities must turn to political means for relief. Unfortunately, they must rely on a rights-based approach rather than a biblical love-based approach. Without the church leading the way, secular agendas of multiculturalism, diversity, tolerance, and racial reconciliation provide only a humanistic, man-centered solution.
