Lazarus was beyond sleep; he was dead! Jesus called him “friend” anyway. Some people only call you “friend” as long as they can use you or benefit from your existence.

His absence leaves us desperately looking for someone else to “fill in the blank.” If the church doesn’t do it, the gay community will. If the church doesn’t do it, the gangs and drug lords will. If the church doesn’t do it, the pornographers will. Empty sons will always look for someone to fill in the blank left by the father who isn’t there.

Even the most voluptuous of fast-paced and lace-clad women cannot console the anguish of masculine tears blocked and cries muffled. Broken men try to mask their hurts behind empty emblems of success, but hidden behind those frail facades are screaming hearts bound in a forced silence.

Worship is falling down before the Lord in complete submission and humility on the inside at all times, making ourselves totally available to whatever He would have us say or do. It is inviting the Holy Spirit to transform us and make us into the fullness of the image of Jesus Christ. It is yielding all that we have and all that we are to the refining power of God so that He might use us and flow through us to bless others. Worship is giving to the Lord all of the honor and glory due His name twenty-four hours a day.

Many people shun an anointed atmosphere because they know that it will challenge them to change. Preferring to stay where the power of God is not moving, they are never challenged, convicted, or transformed.

You need a burning desire for the future, the kind of desire that overcomes past fear and inhibitions. You will remain chained to your past and all the secrets therein until you decide: enough is enough! I am telling you that when your desire for the future peaks, you can break out of prison. I challenge you to sit down and write 30 things you would like to do with your life and scratch them off, one by one, as you accomplish them. There is no way you can plan for the future and dwell in the past at the same time. I feel an earthquake coming into your prison! It is midnight—the turning point of days! It is your time for a change. Praise God and escape out of the dungeons of your past.

The Scriptures declare, “… it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed” (Rom. 13:11 KJV).

God never had to reach into the ground again, because the power to transform was intrinsically placed into man. All types of potential were locked into our spirits before birth. For the Christian, transformation at its optimum is the outworking of the internal. God placed certain things in us that must come out. We house the prophetic power of God. Every word of our personal prophetic destiny is inside us. He has ordained us to be.

Actually, isn’t that what we want to know—our purpose? Then we can use the power to become who we really are. Life has chiseled many of us into mere fragments of who we were meant to be. To all who receive Him, Christ gives the power to slip out of who they were forced into being so they can transform into the individual they each were created to be.

When we are broken, our inner person is starved, needy, and sometimes desperate. Anything that appears to feed our need becomes irresistible, even if it’s bitter, even if it can ultimately destroy us.

We are all imperfect and no one is without flaws. And fortunately, ministry is not about leading people to ourselves, it’s about leading them back to the One who saved us. How tragic…that we often allow the image of perfection to cloud the need to show where His strength is made perfect in us.

Just because you help others doesn’t mean you never need help yourself. Doctors can catch colds. Lawyers can be sued. Police officers can call 911.
