C.S. Lewis
All that we call human history--money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery--[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.

Hold firmly that our faith is identical with that of the ancients. Deny this, and you dissolve the unity of the Church.

One truth stands firm. All that happens in world history rests on something spiritual. If the spiritual is strong, it creates world history. If it is weak, it suffers world history.

No Christian and, indeed, no historian could accept the epigram which defines religion as 'what a man does with his solitude.'

The world's battlefields have been in the heart chiefly; more heroism has been displayed in the household and the closet, than on the most memorable battlefields in history.

So carefully considering the text, we can conclude that the construction of the ark did not involve the 120 years mentioned in Genesis 6:3 but 75 years at the most. Years until the Flood Event Bible reference 120 Countdown to the Flood begins Genesis 6:3 100 Noah had Japheth, the first of his sons, when he was 500 years old Genesis 5:321, 10:212 98 Noah had Shem who was 100 two years after the Flood Genesis 11:103 ? Perhaps 95 or 96, the same time between Japheth and Shem Ham was the youngest one born to Noah and was aboard the ark, so he was born prior to the Flood Genesis 9:244; Genesis 7:135 ? Perhaps 20-40 years for all of the sons to be raised and find a wife Each son was old enough to be married before construction on the ark began Genesis 6:186 ~ 55–75 years (estimate) Noah was told to build the ark, for he, his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives would be aboard the ark Genesis 6:187 Ark Completed ? Gather food and put it aboard the ark Genesis 6:218 7 days Loading the ark Genesis 7:2-39 0 Noah was 600 when the floodwaters came on the earth. Genesis 7:610

Sweeping out of the inward positive reality, there is to be a positive manifestation externally. It is not just that we are dead to certain things, but we are to love God, we are to be alive to Him, we are to be in communion with Him, in this present moment of history. And we are to love men, to be alive to men as men, and to be in communication on a true personal level with men, in this present moment of history.

The great comprehensive truths written in letters of living light on every page of our history are these: Human happiness has no perfect security but freedom; freedom none but virtue; virtue none but knowledge; and neither freedom nor virtue has any vigor of immortal hope, except in the principles of Christian faith, and in the sanctions of the Christian religion.

Feinstein is dipping her toe into the very ugly, muddy waters of religious bigotry. America's Founding Fathers considered religious beliefs to be an asset, even essential to public officeholders. Sadly, Sen. Feinstein apparently believes the opposite of those wise men to whom we owe gratitude for our free and strong country.

Other historians have confined themselves to the recording of victories in war and triumphs over enemies, of the exploits of the commanders and the heroism of their men, stained with the blood of the thousands they have slaughtered for the sake of children and country and possessions; it is peaceful wars, fought for the very peace of the soul, and men who in such wars have fought manfully for truth rather than for country, for true religion rather than for their dear ones, that my account of God’s commonwealth will inscribe on imperishable monuments; it is the unshakeable determination of the champions of true religion, their courage and endurance, their triumphs over demons and victories over invisible opponents, and the crowns which all this won for them at the last, that it will make famous for all time.

Christianity has thus passed through many stages of its earthly life, and yet has hardly reached the period of full manhood in Christ Jesus. During this long succession of centuries it has outlived the destruction of Jerusalem, the dissolution of the Roman empire, fierce persecutions from without, and heretical corruptions from within, the barbarian invasion, the confusion of the dark ages, the papal tyranny, the shock of infidelity, the ravages of revolution, the attacks of enemies and the errors of friends, the rise and fall of proud kingdoms, empires, and republics, philosophical systems, and social organizations without number. And, behold, it still lives, and lives in greater strength and wider extent than ever; controlling the progress of civilization, and the destinies of the world; marching over the ruins of human wisdom and folly, ever forward and onward; spreading silently its heavenly blessings from generation to generation, and from country to country, to the ends of the earth. It can never die; it will never see the decrepitude of old age; but, like its divine founder, it will live in the unfading freshness of self-renewing youth and the unbroken vigor of manhood to the end of time, and will outlive time itself.
