Sermons and Bible teaching from Alistair Begg. Alistair has been in pastoral ministry since 1975. Following graduation from The London School of Theology, he served eight years in Scotland at both Charlotte Chapel in Edinburgh and Hamilton Baptist Church. 

In 1983, he became the senior pastor at Parkside Church near Cleveland, Ohio.  He has written several books and is heard daily and weekly on the radio program, Truth For Life.  The teaching on Truth For Life stems from the week by week Bible teaching at Parkside Church.

He and his wife, Susan, were married in 1975 and they have three grown children.

In this sermon, Pastor Robert walks us through Mark 9:14-29 — one of the most raw and honest passages in all of the Gospels. After the glorious Transfiguration on the mountain, Jesus descends into the valley and is immediately met with a desperate father, a suffering child, confused disciples, and arguing scribes. This contrast between the mountaintop and the valley mirrors the reality of the Christian life. 
 
If you have ever felt your faith wavering, if you have prayed and felt like nothing happened, or if you are walking through a season of suffering, exhaustion, or spiritual warfare — this message is for you. 
 
Key Themes Covered: 
1. The Mountain and the Valley — Why God allows us to experience both glory and suffering, and what each season is meant to teach us about faith. 
 
2. Suffering Is Not an Exception for Believers — Jesus never promised a trouble-free life. The valley is where much of the Christian life is actually lived. Learn how the glory ahead helps us endure the trouble now. 
 
3. Spiritual Warfare Is Real — The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Satan works differently in every generation, but God's people are not ignorant of his devices. 
 
4. “Lord, I Believe; Help My Unbelief” — The father's cry in verse 24 has been called the most honest prayer in the Bible. This message unpacks what it means to bring weak, imperfect, tear-stained faith to Jesus — and why He honors it anyway. 
 
5. You Don't Need Perfect Faith, Just Honest Faith — Jesus did not turn the father away because his faith was small or mixed with doubt. He met him right where he was. This is one of the most encouraging truths in all of Scripture. 
 
6. Why the Disciples Failed — Jesus reveals to His disciples privately that some battles require deeper dependence on God through prayer and fasting. Power flows from relationship with God, not just spiritual authority. 
 
7. The Call to Prayer — This sermon closes with a clear call to draw near to God (James 4:8), to pray persistently (Luke 11:9–10), and to trust that even mustard-seed faith placed in an all-powerful God can accomplish the impossible (Matthew 17:20). 
 
Whether you are in a mountaintop season or deep in the valley right now, this message will remind you that Jesus is not distant — He is near, He is compassionate, and He meets us at our lowest point. His glory does not make Him unreachable. It makes help available.
