20. We are ambassadors They have an embassy from the government of God to the rebellious anarchy of men. For May, intrinsically, mean either in behalf of or in the stead of. The context here indicates the latter meaning. An ambassador is the representative and substitute of his sovereign. And so it is God who beseeches by us.
