How would you like to live in a family with nineteen brothers and sisters?
Such was the home of Philip Doddridge.
In that home, the mother Mrs. Doddridge was to have a marked influence in the life of Philip, her youngest son. She often would draw him to her knees, as they sat by the fireplace, and tell him stories from the Bible. These stories were a foundation that caused his life to be useful for the Savior.
It is not known when young Philip came to know Christ as Savior, but he grew to be a mighty minister of the gospel. He became the head of an academy where he trained young men for the ministry, multiplying his influence many times over. He wrote over four hundred hymns and gospel songs.

O Happy Day!
(1) O happy day that fixed my choice
On Thee, my Savior and my God!
Well may this flowing heart rejoice
And tell its raptures all abroad.
CHORUS:
Happy day, happy day,
When Jesus washed my sins away!
He taught me how to watch and pray
And live rejoicing every day;
Happy day, happy day,
When Jesus washed my sins away!
(2) O happy bond that seals my vows
To Him who merits all my love!
Let cheerful anthems fill His house,
While to that sacred shrine I move.
(3) It's done, the great transaction's done-
I am my Lord's and He is mine;
He drew me, and I followed on,
Thrilled to confess the voice divine.
(4) At peace, my long-divided heart,
Can in this calm assurance rest;
There is no power can make me part
From Love by which I've been possessed.
Be the first to react on this!
