Be still, and know that I am God.
Psalms 46:10
The world is out of breath!
As time moves swiftly by;
So many pant for earthly gain,
"More haste", they cry.
In this mad, frantic rush
There is no inward peace;
Men's hearts are failing them for fear
As strifes increase.
The world is fever-tossed!
Contagious this complaint!
And oft the spirit of the age
Infects the saint.
Caught in the subtle swirl
Of the increasing pace,
Less time is spent to read God's Word,
And seek His face.
'Mid this impelling stress
God gently speaks, "Be still".
From storm zone He would wisely lead
To peaceful rill.
In pastures sweet and green,
He calls His own apart,
To calm the mind, restore the soul,
And cheer the heart.
As whirling wheels must rest
Or soon through friction cease,
So in the chafing scenes of life
We need His peace,
The Spirit's soothing oil,
To be attrition free.
Slow down the tempo of your life,
And happier be!
No dew will e'er descend
Upon a stormy night:
The soul, unruffled, will in God
Find great delight.
O cry not in distress,
"Why should this tension be?"
Be calm! His grace bedewed with love
Will fall on thee.
Be still, and know the Lord;
Enjoy communion sweet;
Amid this flurried, restless world
Sit at His feet.
Let not these hectic days
Crowd out the quiet hour;
For godly living in the strife,
This is thy power.
Be the first to react on this!
