"Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in Thy word." word for law - word; Mine eyes prevent the night watches - the night watches were supposed to be a time for sleep; David expresses the personal note again, 'Mine'. We are to examine ourselves and speak for ourselves. What say you of 'you'? I hear many people talk of others. They speak more of others and about others, but never report on themselves. What can you say about your eyes? What are they doing? What are they watching? 'Mine eyes prevent', he says. What are we to prevent them from? We are to prevent them from sleep. We are to prevent them from sin. We are to prevent them from limitations of what God can do in a circumstance. We are to prevent them from seeing as men, and see as God sees. Did not Elisha pray for his servants eyes to be opened? Prevent my eyes from seeing only temporally. LEt me see spiritually. Satan seeks to prevent us from seeing as God would have us to see. Praise His Name, He is the One Who is able to open the eyes of the blind. He is able to help us to see rightly. Now this is dealing directly with bodily discipline. He is awake; yes it is the night, and he is supposed to be asleep. But God is there, God is speaking and revealing. You dare go to sleep on God? Did not the disciples fail Christ in the garden by slumbering and sleeping when Christ asked them to pray with Him? Are we guilty of such temproal ease?
