Intense heat (2741)(kausoo [word study] from kausos = burning heat, fever) (2Pe 3:12-note = only other Biblical use) means to be consumed by heat, to be intensely hot, to suffer from feverish burning, to be parched with fever and thus denotes a violent consuming heat. Kausoo was medical term Greek physicians used to describe the burning heat of fever. Here kausoo describes how the destruction of the universe will occur -- it will be with intense, furious heat, beyond anything we can imagine...all going up in flames one day in the future! That day of wrath, that dreadful day, When Heav’n and earth shall pass away! What pow’r shall be the sinner’s stay? How shall he meet that dreadful day? When, shriveling like a parchèd scroll, The flaming heav’ns together roll; When louder yet, and yet more dread; Swells the high trump that wakes the dead. O on that day, that wrathful day When man to judgment wakes from clay, Be Thou the trembling sinner’s stay, Though Heav’n and earth shall pass away.
