Steps to the Overcoming Way
It is not by mere training, nor by clever planning or human know-how that we overcome. "Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world." I Corinthians 1:20. We must bring the self life (old man as the Bible describes it) Romans 6:6 to the Cross to die with Jesus. Galatians 2:20, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God Who loved me and gave Himself for me."
Crucifixion doesn't mean that our personality is destroyed, rather it is replaced with the presence of Christ. We are resurrected Christians to enjoy the Abundant Life here and Eternal Life over there: spiritual victory now, and heaven to come. What a hope! "So reckon ourselves to be dead, indeed, unto sin, but alive unto God." Romans 6:11. "Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die … it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds." John 12:24. We die to live.
