How To Love Your Wife - Part 1

If you want to be treated like a KING, then treat your wife like a QUEEN. Most women are quick and ready to respond to a husband who will love them and become considerate of them.
Four times in the New Testament we are told that the husband is to love his wife. Not once is there a direct commandment in the scripture for the wife to love the husband. The wife will respond to the husband's love.
The same thing that will rob you of communion with God and from loving your wife and children is SIN. Lust of sin is one of the greatest hindrances in a marriage.
Ephesians 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another means have a servant's heart toward each other. A servant is one who becomes excited about making other people successful. This attitude should be toward your wife. Some men think that women are their slave and they can do anything they want. Some treat their wives like a hired hand.
Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands….." Men, you are not to use this or emphasize this; it does not apply to men. Rather 5:25 "Husbands, love your wives…." Do not become bitter towards her but instead, love her.
How did Christ Love the Church? He voluntarily limited Himself. Men are to limit themselves and let the wife express herself in her spiritual gifts. He was exceedingly patient with us. He was completley empty of self desire. Do what is appealing to your wife. Let her be first place in your life. He gave second and third chances. Peter denied the Lord three times. Am I sensitive when my wife is seeking to please me? Do I notice the little things? Verbalize it. He comforted in time of sorrow. You do not necessarily have to be saying anything, but just being there to comfort, put your arms around her, even if you don't understand her. Sometimes she feels that she least deserved comfort, but she able to weep in your arms. He anticipated needs and then supplied every need as if it were for the glory of God. He spent much time in prayer. He completely sacrificed Himself even unto death.
How does a husband demonstrate genuine love? Take leadership in the home and not hide behind your wife. Take your coat off for your wife when she needs a bit of warmth Be content with things as they are , not willing to change anything. Show concern. Take time to understand problems. Be sensitive and not have more interest in reading the paper. Have a right attitude – problems do not go away if you ignore them. Be an example of a believer in your home. Be grateful. No longer procrastinate.
