TRIUMPHANT PROCESSION
By Doug Runtz
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have returned home with a Grey Cup win! For those of you who are not aware or part of the 'Rider Nation', the Grey Cup is Canada's national trophy presented to the best football team in the Canadian Football League.
The win came after many years of being content with mediocre, always falling short performances. With the advent of a new General Manager, Coach and a team of players that believed what they could accomplish, a new mindset was born. With a demonstration of humility, a lack of criticism, and a drive for continuous improvement, perseverance trumped sheer talent to triumph. The GM, coaches and many players gave credit to the Saskatchewan fans who 'bleed green' with a passion.
God's Word in Romans 3:23 says that 'all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' Could it be said that the church in North America has grown content with mediocrity? Has the church 'fallen short' in the mission and mandate it received from Jesus? Have we as God's people lost our passion for souls in darkness? I think we all know the answer to these questions.
Jesus Christ did not come to be served, but to give his life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28) Let us not neglect so great a salvation. (Hebrews 2:3) We have not been redeemed with perishable things such as gold or silver but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (1 Peter 1:19)
As believers we have been given the Holy Spirit. Let us stop grieving Him. We must return to the Cross where we will again find forgiveness and the power of the Holy Spirit to be witnesses for Jesus. Our brother Gerhard du Toit says: "When I'm broken before God, I compare myself with the holiness of God. I always want to walk in His light.
Saskatchewan is celebrating a Rider Grey Cup which was a long time coming. Wouldn't it be something if all those celebrations going on are because Jesus has come into their lives, saved them, and filled us all with his Holy Spirit!
Be the first to react on this!
