Why Revival?
by Harold Peasley
Part 4
Reading: 2 Chronicles 7: 12 – 16
The question people are asking is "Why is there no revival?"
Is it because of the state of the world?
5. THE POWER IT GENERATES
"Then will I hear from heaven"
In Isaiah 64 verses 1 and 2 we read:
Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, (v 2) as when the melting fire burneth, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make Thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
Dr Stephen Olford, in his book "Lord Open the Heavens", says, as he commentates on this verse, "the mighty power of God is released
as we need 1. A Divine Intervention
we need 2. A Divine Revelation
we need 3. A Divine Visitation "
* Nicholas Benghu, African Pastor – 1950's in East London, South Africa, in the Daily Dispatch, there was a tremendous sense of returning to God in the revival that swept through that Black township. Returned to the police were the following that were stolen:
80 sheets 25 blankets 24 jackets
34 trousers 11 overcoats 6 women's coats
25 dresses 27 skirts 50 shirts
22 bedspreads 64 hats 23 towels
1 table 4 chairs 50 pillowslips
15 scissors 5 hair clippers 9 wallets
4 cameras 4 wrist watches 3 revolvers and ammunition 30 tumblers
crockery, cutlery, boots, shoes, pressure stoves, frying pans, lanterns and safety razors.
Years ago, in England, a visitor to a little town hotel asked for the local pub. They said there was none. He asked why. " A man by the name of John Wesley visited this town 50 years ago."
Duncan Campbell was to address the great Bangor Convention in Northern Ireland. While he was sitting in the pulpit beside the chairman of the Convention, he was suddenly gripped by the conviction that he had to leave the Convention and go to a certain island (Hebrides). When he eventually got there he was met by a young lad who told him that they were expecting him to come and preach that night at 9 o'clock. He found a man who had been praying the day before to whom God had revealed that He would send someone to preach to them, and that's exactly what happened. By faith, he went ahead and arranged the service for 9 o'clock that night, knowing that this particular person, whoever he was, was going to arrive on the island. About 80 people had gathered.
The old man said "I hope you're not disappointed that revival has not come to the church tonight. But God is hovering over us, and He'll break through any minute." Here is a man of whom it was said "the secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him".
After the service they were walking home and, about 300 yards away from the church, as the congregation moved away, suddenly the elder stood, took off his hat and said "stand, Mr Campbell, God has come! God has come! See what is happening!" "I looked towards the congregation and I saw them falling on their knees among the heather. I heard the cries of the penitent. And that meeting that began at 11.00 that night, continued on the hillside until 4.00 in the morning. The island was suddenly gripped by God" Was it because Campbell went to the island? Banish the thought!
