Your Attitude Is Your Choice by Harold Vaughan Scripture Reading --Psalm 9:2a "I will be glad and rejoice in thee." A small, 92-year-old woman was well-poised and fully dressed by eight o'clock each morning. Though she was legally blind, her hair was always combed and her makeup perfectly applied. When her husband of seventy years passed away, she moved to a nursing home. On the day of the move, she patiently waited in the lobby for many hours. She smiled when a nurse said her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, the nurse gave her a visual description of her tiny room. "I love it," the old lady replied with the enthusiasm of an 8-year-old who'd just received a new toy. "But Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room yet," the nurse replied. "That doesn't have anything to do with it," Mrs. Jones replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged. It's how I arrange my mind. I have already decided to love it." Wow, what a tremendous attitude! We may not be able to do anything about where we are, but we can do something about how we are! We may be unable to control our circumstances, but we can control our attitude. Attitude is a little thing that goes a long way! We have little choice about many things in life, but we can adopt the attitude of contentment. Being glad is a personal decision. We should stop whining and start shining; we're too blessed to be depressed. "I will be glad" means we can determine to choose gladness over gloominess. If a 92-year-old could choose happiness, we can, too! David said, "I will be glad." Will you say those words, too? Points to Ponder: Have you had a positive attitude today? Do you need to seek forgiveness from God or from family members for a bad attitude? Never forget that your attitude is your choice.
