Man - The Dwelling Place of God - How to Try the Spirits

Christ in a believer's heart will act the same as He acted in Galilee and Judea. His disposition is the same now as then. He was holy, righteous, compassionate, meek and humble then, and He has not changed. He is the same wherever He is found, whether it be at the right hand of God or in the nature of a true disciple. He was friendly, loving, prayerful, kindly, worshipful, self-sacrificing while walking among men; is it not reasonable to expect Him to be the same when walking in men" Why then do true Christians sometimes act in an un-Christlike manner" Some would assume that when a professed Christian fails to show forth the moral beauty of Christ in his life it is a proof that he has been deceived and is actually not a real Christian at all. But the explanation is not so simple as that. The truth is that while Christ dwells in the believer's new nature, He has strong competition from the believer's old nature. The warfare between the old and the new goes on continually in most believers. This is accepted as inevitable, but the New Testament does not so teach. A prayerful study of Romans 6 to 8 points the way to victory. If Christ is allowed complete sway He will live in us as He lived in Galilee.

Tension Between the Old Nature and the New

Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. You also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. § As obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” § Sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. </blockquote>The Cross is the altar upon which God sacrificed His Son. It is upon this same Cross (take up your Cross "daily"), this same altar (the place of death), that I am to be consecrated to God as "a new creation" (<a id="verse_1632879976354073" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/2-Corinthians/5/17">2 Cor. 5:17</a>). This eventuates in my intelligently yielding myself to Him as one who is "alive from the dead" (<a id="verse_1632879976989550" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/6/13">Rom. 6:13</a>)."God asks us to present our bodies as living sacrifices to Him (<a id="verse_1632879976151374" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/12/1">Rom. 12:1</a>).  The Cross, Then Consecration

</blockquote>The principle underlying resurrection life is, of all things, death. "For since we have become one with Him by sharing in His death, we shall also be one with Him by sharing in His resurrection. Surrender your very selves to God as living men who have risen from the dead" (<a id="verse_1632880284873926" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/6/5">Rom. 6:5</a>; <a id="verse_1632880284850360358" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/6/13">13</a>, Wey.). Let the facts of your position overwhelm the feelings of your condition."By exercising faith in the Word, apart from any feelings, be planted together with Him in the likeness of His death' (<a id="verse_1632880284930647" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/6/5">Rom. 6:5</a>). Only by thus standing in your position will you begin to experience the likeness of His resurrection.' Reckon on your life-union with Him. Reject the old life on the basis of your death in Christ on the Cross, and count yourself alive in Him until He makes experiential your resurrection position. Do not forget that you must stand firmly upon the specific truths: dead indeed unto sin - alive unto God in Christ Jesus' (<a id="verse_1632880284791854" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Romans/6/11">Rom. 6:11</a>)."The sharing of His life is our blessed experience just in the measure in which we share His death. So many of us are content merely that the Cross should be the power to save us from the penalty of sin, but death was not the end of the manifestation of Christ. It was resurrection, and it is the risen life, shining forth in the believer, that alone can carry out the purpose of God in redemption.  Old Rejected, New Accepted
