He will save in every trouble, from every foe, even unto the end. Look to Him then, and to Him alone, to deliver, direct, relieve, and preserve. MAN'S love is changeable, being a passion; God's love is unchangeable, being a perfection. Having loved, He always will love. Nothing can occur in time, but what He knew from eternity; consequently there can be no reason today, why God should not love me, but what He knew would be before He set His heart upon me. He fixed His love upon us in the fore-view of all that would be done by us, or felt within us; and connected us with Jesus, that He might never withdraw His love from us. Oh, to be able to say with holy John, We have known and believed the love that God hath to us! God is love! The love of God is from everlasting to everlasting; without variableness, or the shadow of a turn. Here God resteth, and here we should rest. Herein is love, that God should take such poor, vile, ungrateful, wretched creatures, and make them the bride of His Son, the delight of His soul, and His portion for evermore. Oh, the riches of divine love! Admire it, trust it, rejoice in it, and make it the subject of your daily meditation. HE WILL REST IN HIS LOVE. On this rock we may rest with confidence; on this pillow we may repose in peace.The cov'nant of grace all blessings secures; Believer, rejoice, for all things are yours; And God from His purpose shall never remove, But love thee, and bless thee, and rest in His love.

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in his love, He will joy over thee with singing." Zephaniah 3:17 What a Word is this! Jehovah God in the center of His people in all the majesty of His power! This presence alone suffices to inspire us with peace and hope. Treasures of boundless might are stored in our Jehovah, and He dwells in His church; therefore may His people shout for joy. We not only have His presence, but He is engaged upon His choice work of salvation. "He will save." He is always saving: He takes His name of Jesus from it. Let us not fear any danger, for He is mighty to save. Nor is this all. He abides evermore the same, He saves, He finds rest in loving, He will not cease to love. His love gives Him joy. He even finds a theme for song in His beloved. This is exceedingly wonderful. When God wrought creation He did not sing but simply said, "It is very good"; but when He came to redemption, then the sacred Trinity felt a joy to be expressed in song. Think of it, and be astonished! Jehovah Jesus sings a marriage song over His chosen bride. She is to Him His love, His joy, His rest, His song. O LORD Jesus, by Thine immeasurable love to us teach us to love Thee, to rejoice in Thee, and to sing unto Thee our life-psalm.

The Reason for Singing

Most pitiable was the condition of the Israelites in Egypt. Pharaoh seemed to delight in eliciting the most incredible proofs of their subjection to his rod. There is ordinarily a limit beyond which masters dare not go in trifling with the lives and feelings of even the most abject slaves; but there seemed to be no limit to Pharaoh's power to oppress. The sacred sentiment of paternity he trampled on; and seemed to feel that the Israelites were the very impersonation of helplessness. But soon it appeared that the Lord was in the midst of this despised people, mighty to save; and with such exhibitions of might and majesty as never had accompanied the movements of any other people, they went forth from the presence of their oppressors. The Church of Christ is an habitation of God through the Spirit. Lo, I am with you always, said Jesus. We know how mighty he was in the midst of his disciples. After a lapse of many years he appeared to John, and told him to reveal him to the churches as walking in the midst of the golden candle sticks. He is in the midst of us, mighty to save. Nothing of his might has been lost to the Church. It was expedient for us that he should go from earth in body, and be present with us in spirit. We lost nothing by this arrangement. We may therefore calculate on a manifestation of glory and of power not by any means inferior to those that render lustrous the pages of sacred history. Let us only be careful to put far away all insignia of our own power and glory; and what may we not expect! But alas! what do we expect? Do we expect some sublime revelations of might in the way of subduing our selfishness, worldliness, passion, pride? Are we looking for divine might to disclose itself in connection with our efforts for the good of men? Are we rivaling Elijah in faith, Moses in meekness and zeal. Job in patience, Paul in earnestness, John in spirituality? Are we seeking to be holy as God is holy? Why not, if the Lord be in the midst of us, mighty to save.

The Lord your God … went in the way before you to search out a place for you to pitch your tents, to show you the way you should go, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day. § As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, so the Lord alone led him. § The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand. § Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. § For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish. § We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. § With us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. § Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” § The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you in His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. § Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain.”

 The Lord ... is in your midst. 

Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass. § God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. § He will ever be mindful of His covenant. Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands. The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
