Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you. § If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. The Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. The Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you His people. § Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. § Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God. Shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.

 Our God did not forsake us. 

Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.” I have forgotten prosperity. And I said, “My strength and my hope have perished from the Lord.” § Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord? Arise! Do not cast us off forever. § Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my just claim is passed over by my God?” § “With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,” says the Lord, your Redeemer. Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance. § We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.

 I have been cast out of Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple. 

Thus says the Lord, who created you … “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.” § Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. § My delight was with the sons of men. § The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy. § “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “on the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” You, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.

 The Lord delights in you. 

Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass. § God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. § He will ever be mindful of His covenant. Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands. The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.

Evening Daily Light

 I will not leave you nor forsake you. 

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. § But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.” You will not be forgotten by Me! I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins. Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was. § A woman . . . cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David!” . . . But He answered her not a word. The genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes.

 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.” § Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. § For I am persuaded that neither … height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
