For Reading and Meditation:      Ruth 2:3We spend another day considering how Ruth finds herself gleaning a field which belonged to Boaz, not by chance but by divine guidance. Eliezer, Abraham's servant, you remember, experienced similar leading when he went to search for a bride for Isaac: "I being in the way, the Lord led me" (Genesis 24:27, KJV). The fact that God should condescend to guide us in this life is wonderful, but nothing can be more wonderful than guidance of which we are not conscious. How reassuring it is to know that even when we are not seeking it, God is guiding us still. I am sure that almost every one of you can look back and recollect a time when, because of a "chance" occurrence, your ife took a completely different turn. The world explains these things as coincidences, and sometimes they are no more than that, but there are special times when seeming coincidences are really God-instances. The Almighty is at work, bringing His wondrous purposes to pass. This is because, as the theologians tell us, God not only has a general providence - one in which all His creation benefits - but a special providence which involves only those who have a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ (Romans 8:28). After a lifetime of knowing God's special providence, the great Samuel Chadwick, one-time principal of Cliff College in Derbyshire, England, said: "The divine attention to detail is amazing. Nothing is too trivial for Omnipotence." Though the universe revolves at His word, He means it when He says to you and me: "I will guide thee with mine eye" (Psalm 32:8, KJV).O Father, how humbling yet how encouraging it is to know that You guide me even when I am not conscious of it. Forgive me that I do not thank You enough for this. But I do so now. Thank You dear Father. Thank You. Amen.

Under Divine instruction we learn the true nature of sin, the vanity of the world, the emptiness of creatures, and the fulness and preciousness of Christ.Is God willing to instruct us? Then let us be early and often at His throne, praying, as the Psalmist did, "Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day." Then shall we exclaim, as Elihu did, "Behold, God exalteth by His power: who teacheth like Him?"The Lord will teach us to profit, and sanctify us through the truth He imparts. Christ is our great lesson, and to know Him rightly, is life, peace, and joy. Is Jesus thy Teacher? Then sit at His feet, treasure up His words, and show forth His praise. He says, "Learn of Me." Learn to know Him, love Him, obey Him, and live upon Him.Eternal life Thy words impart; On these my fainting spirit lives: Here sweeter comforts cheer my heart, Than the whole world around me gives.

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; but he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. It appends no commentary, but simply allows scripture to speak for itself.

 Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him  shall He teach in the way He chooses. 

Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; but he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. § Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.

 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean  not on your own understanding; in all your ways  acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. 

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. § Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” § Having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith. Let us … pursue the knowledge of the Lord. § All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

 Teach me Your way, O Lord. 

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. § Concerning the works of men, by the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, … saying, “Let us go after other gods”—which you have not known—“and let us serve them,” you shall not listen to the words of that prophet … for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. § I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

 There is a way that seems right to a man,but its end is the way of death. 

Moses said to the Lord, “… I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You …” And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” § He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way … Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. § Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.  Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. 

When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth. § You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. § All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. § The Holy Scriptures … are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. § The lamp of the body is the eye.
