David is still waiting on God to fulfill His promise of a kingdom. He has shown humility in inquiring of God (2:1-8) about where the kingdom should start out. Now Abner has set up Ish-bosheth as the king of Israel in a rebellious move to create a rival kingdom. This passage (2:12-3:39) shows the failure of Abner and Joab (David's military commander) in their attempts set up a kingdom contrary to God's. We will look at 3 wrong ways to seeking God's kingdom, and then will be encouraged to trust that God's promises will prevail over the desires of men. This will encourage us to always seek God's Kingdom in Chirst first before all others. (Matthew 6:33)
