Sermon: The New Covenant Part 1: "In My Blood"

Summary: 
The first appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ ushered in the new covenant that was foretold by the prophet Jeremiah. Our Lord’s bloody sacrifice on the cross was the foundation of this new covenant, which is, as he said when he instituted the Lord’s Supper, “the new covenant in my blood.” These two covenants are both under one covenant of grace. However, this new covenant is not all new, but is the continuation and fulfillment of the old covenant with Israel under Moses. Therefore, this old covenant is often referred to as law and promise, while the new covenant if often called gospel and fulfillment. These are just a few of the similarities and differences between these two covenants that we will study in this sermon.

Summary:

Summary: 
 
Jesus fulfilled all the purposes written in our text. By fulfilling all righteousness and offering himself as a sacrifice for sin, he ended all sin, transgression and iniquity. As God’s Prophet, he came to reveal and to fulfill God’s word. He is now building his “most holy place,” his Church, gathering all chosen Jews and Gentiles into his temple. And when he has gathered all his people, he would have consummated “the year of the Lord’s favor,” the year of the Jubilee. In the Old Testament, the year of the Jubilee comes after seven times seven years, the 50th year. On that year, all slaves are freed, all debts are forgiven, and the land is allowed to be unplowed and unplanted. 
 
The 70 years of Daniel is symbolic of the seven times seven years preceding the Jubilee year. It is a great comfort to us that after these symbolic 70 years are fulfilled, God will usher in our Jubilee year. He will end all sin, sufferings, persecutions and death by taking us to our heavenly dwelling-places where we will dwell with him forever.

Abstract: The Holy Spirit is our Comforter and Helper in these difficult days. The Bible says that all unbelievers will reject the things of the Spirit of God because their hearts and minds are blinded by the devil. Everything about God and Christ and his church is foolishness to them. This will be the state of the world until our Lord Jesus Christ returns to gather all of us his people into the new heaven and new earth. 
Scripture encourages us that our hope is only in Christ. We do not put our hope and trust in the power and might of presidents and politicians. Only in Christ will we endure our sufferings. The last verse in this sermon series on the letter to the Romans exhorts us to look up to heaven because our blessed hope is coming soon! 
 
Excerpt: Because we love our Lord, we keep his commandments (John 14:15). And by keeping his commandments, the unbelieving world around us hate us as they hate him. We see this persecution in all nations, including ours. We are mocked, harassed and called all kinds of evil names when we openly say we are Christians. Our children are brainwashed from kindergarten through college with anti-Christian teachings about abortion, transgenderism, disrespect of authorities and socialism. All of us are bombarded with anti-Christian movies, news and shows on TV and social media. Our government institutions and private businesses have become tools of Satan. This is why it is extremely difficult for Christians to watch TV these days.
