The Father and I are one.

4th Monday of Easter – Gospel John 10:1-10 
 
I am the gate for the sheep. 
 
Jesus said: 
“Amen, amen, I say to you, 
whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate 
but climbs over elsewhere is a thief and a robber. 
But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 
The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, 
as the shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 
When he has driven out all his own, 
he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, 
because they recognize his voice. 
But they will not follow a stranger; 
they will run away from him, 
because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.” 
Although Jesus used this figure of speech, 
the Pharisees did not realize what he was trying to tell them. 
 
So Jesus said again, “Amen, amen, I say to you, 
I am the gate for the sheep. 
All who came before me are thieves and robbers, 
but the sheep did not listen to them. 
I am the gate. 
Whoever enters through me will be saved, 
and will come in and go out and find pasture. 
A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; 
I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”

I am the gate for the sheep.

Jesus said:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,

What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” 
 
As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. [After Jesus had fed the five thousand men, his disciples saw him walking on the sea.] 
The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea 
saw that there had been only one boat there, 
and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, 
but only his disciples had left. 
Other boats came from Tiberias 
near the place where they had eaten the bread 
when the Lord gave thanks. 
When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, 
they themselves got into boats 
and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

When it was evening, the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea, embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 2nd Friday of Easter - Gospel John 6:1-15 
 
Jesus distributed to those who were reclining as much as they wanted. 
 
Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. 
A large crowd followed him, 
because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick. 
Jesus went up on the mountain, 
and there he sat down with his disciples. 
The Jewish feast of Passover was near. 
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, 
he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” 
He said this to test him, 
because he himself knew what he was going to do. 
Philip answered him, 
“Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough 
for each of them to have a little.” 
One of his disciples, 
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, 
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; 
but what good are these for so many?” 
Jesus said, “Have the people recline.” 
Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. 
So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. 
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, 
and distributed them to those who were reclining, 
and also as much of the fish as they wanted. 
When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, 
“Gather the fragments left over, 
so that nothing will be wasted.” 
So they collected them, 
and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments 
from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. 
When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, 
“This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.” 
Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off 
to make him king, 
he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

2nd Friday of Easter - Gospel John 6:1-15

Jesus distributed to those who were reclining as much as they wanted.

Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee.
A large crowd followed him,
because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.
Jesus went up on the mountain,
and there he sat down with his disciples.
The Jewish feast of Passover was near.
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him,
he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?”
He said this to test him,
because he himself knew what he was going to do.
Philip answered him,
“Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough
for each of them to have a little.”
One of his disciples,
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish;
but what good are these for so many?”
Jesus said, “Have the people recline.”
Now there was a great deal of grass in that place.
So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.

The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him. 
 
The one who comes from above is above all.

The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.

The one who comes from above is above all.

Jesus came and stood in their midst. 
 
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” 
 
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 
 
Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” 
 
Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. 
He revealed himself in this way. 
Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus,

Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” 
They said to him, “We also will come with you.” 
So they went out and got into the boat, 
but that night they caught nothing. 
When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore;

Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” 
They answered him, “No.” 
So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat 
and you will find something.” 
So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in

So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” 
When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, 
he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, 
and jumped into the sea. 
The other disciples came in the boat, 
for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards, 
dragging the net with the fish. 
When they climbed out on shore, 
they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread. 
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.” 
So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore 
full of one hundred fifty-three large fish. 
Even though there were so many, the net was not torn. 
Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.” 
And none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” 
because they realized it was the Lord. 
Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, 
and in like manner the fish. 
This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples 
after being raised from the dead.

Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of baked fish; he took it and ate it in front of them. 
 
He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing as you walk along?” They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?” And he replied to them, “What sort of things?” They said to him, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his Body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see.” And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the Eleven and those with them who were saying, “The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!” Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
