Encouraging words from the Bible

In our previous sessions about Peter's restoration we saw the Lord praying for Peter even before Peter had sinned.  Then it was the Lord's gaze that made Peter repent and he therefore left the court of the chief priests.  Then on the morning of the resurrection, Peter received a personal message of grace.  Today we want to think briefly about Luke 24:34.

In chapter four of the epistle to the Colossians, Paul names various people he sends greetings to or who have greetings for the Colossians.  He also names various characteristics that particularly distinguish these people, such as  their faithfulness or dedication to the Lord.  Today we want to think about a brother, Archippus, to whom a brief but very important message is conveyed.

In the last video, we thought about the Lord looking at Peter and thereby causing real repentance in Peter's heart.  Peter saw the extent of his sin in the light of God and went out and wept bitterly.  Today we want to briefly think about what “going out” is and what that means for us.

We have already seen the Lord praying for Peter preventively.  Now, after Peter has denied the Lord three times, we see the Lord turning to Peter in His great grace and love.  The Lord must have had his back to Peter, because he turns around and with that he turns to Peter. Today, we want to have a look at what it means when the Lord turns all his attention on Peter.

Faith is the first and fundamental step a person takes when turning to God.  He recognizes himself as a sinner and accepts the work of the Lord Jesus by faith.  But faith is also essential in the life of every follower of the Lord.  Even before the Lord Jesus died for us on the cross, there were people who had strong faith.  The centurion who came to the Lord Jesus is characterized by particularly strong faith.

We have reached the last step of Peter’s Fall. The Lord had warned Peter and told him that he would deny him three times before the rooster crowed. Peter went his way regardless and now the final denial takes place. It’s the result of Peters condition of heart, that became so obvious to us in the last videos of this series.

God is able - what a statement! In the New Testament we find many verses that speak about God or the Lord Jesus who is able to do something. Today we want to have a brief look at some aspects of this in connection with Hebrews 7:25

We have already seen that Peter overestimated himself, slept and consequently didn’t pray. We also saw that his condition of heart became visible to others in his actions. Today we will see that his distance from the Lord becomes obvious.

Job actually learned that God bruises, but binds up, he wounds, but his hands make whole (Job 5:17, 18)! 
It is very interesting to see how God changes people and uses them for his glory. The relationship with Him or with our Lord Jesus is the crucial point in every person’s life. I would like to share a few thoughts about Job in order to show that God always achieves His end or His objective, because God never leaves a work started by Him unfinished! I am going to read James 5:11....

It is very interesting to see how God changes people and uses them for his glory.  The relationship with Him or with our Lord Jesus is the crucial point in every person’s life.  I would like to share a few thoughts about Job in order to show that God always achieves His end or His objective, because God never leaves a work started by Him unfinished! God’s end with Job / James 5:11

Are you struggling to trust God and his promises, especially then when you are facing difficulties? Today we want to have a look how the people of Israel went 40 years through the wilderness without anything but survived in the most difficult circumstances. May the Lord uses these brief thought to encourage everyone who is listening to it! 
 
For forty years, day after day, God provided them with everything they needed. Looking back to that time it could be said that “He has been with them” and that “nothing was lacking”. What wonderful evidence of God's care! Today, I like to share five aspects of Gods care with you: 
 
 Every day he satisfied the people with the bread of heaven and even then when the people complained and asked for meat, he let quails come (Ps 105:40) 
 
 Every day they had enough water because God in his power, for instance, he opened the rock and let water come out or made bitter water sweet (Exodus 17: 6 and Exodus 15: 23-25). 
 
 Every day God made sure that they were guided through the cloud in the day and the pillar of fire in the night (Numbers 9: 15-18). 
 
 They had enough clothes every day, because these clothes just wouldn't break (Deuteronomy 29: 4). 
 
 Every day God gave them health to walk the way in the desert under these difficult circumstances (Deuteronomy 8: 4). It’s written that even their foot did not swell. 
 
Isn't that a wonderful God who made sure that nothing was lacking? As believers we can know that this God is also our God and our Father! As his children we can trust him that he will take care of everything in his fatherly care. To him you are dear and valuable and always the object of his divine care. (Isa 43,2.4) This can give us strength and courage for every day.

What will last? 
 
This week a dear brother and friend went to be with the Lord unexpectedly. Because of what I know of him, I can say that he had a heart for the Lord, lived for him and served him. Still under this special impression, 2 questions came into my mind: 
1. Are we prepared to meet our God? 
2. What will last once we leave this earth? 
Today we are going to think a few moments about the second question and so I am reading from 
 
Matthew 26:13 
Verily I say to you, Wheresoever these glad tidings may be preached in the whole world, that also which this [woman] has done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. 
 
Mary poured out the very precious ointment on the Lord and the disciples became indignant and blamed her to better use the money for the poor. But the Lord Jesus appreciates what she is doing, is defending her and giving her a special memorial. He told the disciples that what she did last forever. 
 
If we apply that into our life, we learn to live only for Christ! It’s not that important what other people say, it’s not important how much we achieve in our profession, it’s not important how many promotions we got, it’s not important how big our houses are or cars are. It’s not important wherever we have been traveled and it’s not important how much money we have on our account. It’s not important which movies we watched and what we know about all the peoples in the world. But it’s important who Christ is for us, what we do for Christ, what he thinks about us and if he appreciates what we are doing! 
 
Mary learned all that at the feed of the Lord Jesus and so can we! There our hearts get warm and there we enjoy his love and as a result want to express our love for him in our life. 1. Corinthians 15:58 says “So then, my beloved brethren, be firm, immovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” 
 
May the Lord help us to live a life for him, and him alone! That we live in sight of eternity and have always in our minds that only that what’s done for Christ will last! I want to close this short video with a part of a poem from Charles Studd that touched me once again:

When self would seek to have its way,
