There are many afflictions in this world that we can relate to, whether it be domestic, physical--we all have a spiritual illness because the world has been infected by sin.

For it is written, "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."

LESSON AT A GLANCE

• "Wrath" is a focus or energy to combat something. Our wrath cannot/will not work the righteousness of God. We should be slow to wrath (see James 1:19)

• "Superfluity" means beyond, or above that which is normal. The issues of man are overflowing, gushing like a fountain.

• The Woman with Issue of Blood… Mark 5:25-26; 27-29; 30-34
The word "issue" in the Greek literally means a gushing fluid.

○ Condition: The woman had a chronic bleeding issue for 12 years. She suffered not only physically (getting worse), but financially and socially.

According to the law, she was deemed ceremonially unclean, and anyone or anything she came into contact with would be unclean (see Leviticus 15:19-25)

○ Cure: The woman heard of Jesus and sought after him in a crowd even though the law made it clear she was to be quarantined.

Her faith prompted her to seek Jesus (see Hebrews 11:1,6). She touched the hem of his garment, believing she would be whole even though the law prohibited her from touching anything in her uncleanness. However, Jesus transcends the law. The fountain was straightway dried up, and she was healed of her chronic illness.

○ Closure: The woman fell before Jesus and told him all the truth, despite her fear. As a result, he called her a daughter and told her to go in peace.
