There is no greater collection of books than God's Word, which lets us know how we can save, preserve and deliver our soul. May we study it with a sense of purpose!

LESSON AT A GLANCE

• The bible is a collection of books, and is God-bred.

• There are three basic time frames in the bible… Hebrews 1:1

○ Patriarchal - God spoke to the heads of households
○ Mosaical - God spoke through Moses, his mediator
○ Christian - God speaks to us through Jesus Christ

• The church of Christ is a new testament church, we are governed by the new testament.

• The value of the Old Testament:

○ Useful for our learning (see Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11)
○ Provides wisdom (see 2 Timothy 3:15)
○ Warns us regarding sin (see Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7)
○ Helps us understand the new covenant regarding Christ (see Isaiah 53:6-7,12)
○ Helps us understand the new covenant regarding the church (see Isaiah 2:1-4; Daniel 2:44)

• When studying the bible, know who is speaking, to whom they are speaking, and what they are speaking about.

• Has the Old Testament Been Done Away? YES!!

○ It was not powerful enough to save us… Colossians 2:14; John 12:48
○ Why was the old testament done away? 2 Corinthians 3:11-16
