Paul tells the Galatians that by turning back to the Law for a salvation by works, they would be cutting themselves off from Christ. To do this is effectively to fall from Grace, but we are reminded that this does not mean a true believer can lose his salvation - rather that one who falls away like this was never a true believer in the first place. The grace to trust in Jesus comes only from the Holy Spirit and this is the source of true salvation. The evidence of this saving faith is the fruit of the Holy Spirit in this life - the foremost of which is love.
