When tribulations come, realize God is working something out. Glory in it because it brings patience.

It is written, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;"

LESSON AT A GLANCE

• We have to understand the necessity of struggle.

○ Our foundation is faith.
○ Strive to get better--I believe in God.
○ Keep investigating to make sure you get it right.
○ Discipline and self-control are crucial as well.

• Christians can lie, and live a lie… 1 John 1:6

• We can find commonality when we share… 1 John 1:7

• If we know to do better, then do better… 1 John 1:8

• Patience (or "Hupomone" in the Greek) means steadfastness or endurance

○ Passive endurance is when you drop anchor in the midst of the storm, and the ship doesn't move as the winds and waters press against it.

○ Active endurance means that despite the storm, you remain steady. To undergo while sailing. You bear the winds as you go through. Abide while you suffer.

• People can get reads on you… 2 Timothy 3:11-12

○ Paul says they knew how he operated
○ Paul went through his persecutions, and was delivered from them all
○ Sometimes you have to drop anchor, and sometimes you have to lift up the anchor and move

• Our mindset and where we look… Romans 5:2-4

○ We are declared not guilty by faith.
○ Jesus Christ gives us access to into grace.
○ We rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
○ Have a mindset where you expect something to happen

• Joy in temptations… James 1:2-4

○ This is a mindset based on total faith in God.
○ There is no endurance without being tried.
○ Patience will make you complete

• Hope… Hebrews 6:17

○ We are heirs of God's promise
○ We know God does not lie, so we can hold on to hope.
