1 John 5:6-9 The Spirit is truth
We live in a society and time where it is very difficult to know who is telling you the truth. People used to have a moral compass that wouldn’t allow them to just look you in the eye and tell you a bold-faced lie, but that isn’t true today. You used to be able to turn on the evening news or pick up a newspaper and know that what you were reading was facts, now media organizations are so politically swayed you really can’t trust them. Social media allows individuals to fill their news feeds with what they want the world to see instead of what is really going on in their life. Thank goodness, there is still a creditable source out there that we can trust, John says that the Spirit who testifies of Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Truth. That’s right we can trust the Holy Spirit of God to always speak the truth to us even if we don’t like what the Spirit says we can trust that it is one hundred percent true.
First and foremost, the Spirit of God will testify that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Lord of all. This is important because world is always trying to convince us that this is not true and that we are foolish for believing it. The Spirit of God will also tell us the truth about ourselves even when we don’t want to hear it. When we examine our hearts and look ourselves in the mirror, the Spirit of Truth will reveal to us things that are not right in our lives and things that need corrected. He will let us know when we are on the wrong websites, we are hanging out with the wrong people, we are laughing at the wrong jokes, and we are watching the wrong TV shows. A Child of God can always trust the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth in every situation, but we will always be willing to accept the truth, that is the question. Knowing and receiving the truth is very important but obeying the truth is where we separate from the children of God from the children of this world.
