As we begin the New Year, we review the law of cause and effect: what you sow, you will reap. Though this principle is commonly applied to life in a negative way, it can be applied in very positive ways as well: if you sow good things, you will reap useful benefits. We see:

*First, the principle: what it means that we reap what we sow.
*Second, Paul's application of this principle to us more particularly in our spiritual life: if you sow to the flesh, you will reap corruption and death, but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap love and eternal life.
*Finally, his warning: we must not deceive ourselves into thinking that things work any other way.

We are reminded that if we sow to the Spirit in our lives, we will reap spiritual blessings, including eternal life.
