Despite the numbers, are you relying on God?

It is written in 2 Chronicles 13:13-14, "But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them. And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets."

KEY SCRIPTURES:
1 Kings 11
2 Chronicles 12 & 13

KEY LESSON OBJECTIVES:

• Toxic Relationships
• Consequences of Sin
• Authority of God
• Providence of God

OBJECTIVE #1: Toxic Relationships

• King Solomon clave to many strange woman despite the Lord's commandment that the children of Israel should not go unto other nations, for surely they would turn away your heart… 1 Kings 11:1-4

• As a result of his toxic relationships, his heart was turned away from the Lord and he began doing evil. Solomon was no longer whole-heartedly doing what he needed to do, but rather just enough to get by… 1 Kings 11:6,9-10

OBJECTIVE #2: Consequences of Sin

• As a result of his sin, the Lord said he would surely tear away the kingdom from Solomon, and give it to his servant. However, out of respect for David, the Lord said it would not be done during his lifetime, but in the days of Solomon's son… 1 Kings 11:11

• In 1 Kings 11:26, we see that Jeroboam is one of the sons of Solomon's servant, who the Lord reveals will be given ten of the tribes, yet two will be preserved for David and Jerusalem's sake (v. 30-32). Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam as a result of this judgment, but Jeroboam fled until the death of Solomon (v. 40-43).

OBJECTIVE #3: Authority of God

• In 1 Kings 12:20, when Jeroboam came again, he was made king over all Israel, save for the tribe of Judah, which was under Rehoboam, Solomon's son. Meanwhile, Jeroboam feared if the other 10 tribes (Israel) continued to worship in Jerusalem, their hearts would be turned to the Lord. As a result, Jeroboam set up golden calves in Bethel and Dan (v. 26-29).

2 Chronicles 12:13-16, Rehoboam did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord. Therefore, wars continued continually between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, even during the reign of Rehoboam's son.

OBJECTIVE #4: Providence of God

• Keep fighting against the Lord and it will not prosper. Judah had people in front and behind, and cried unto the Lord. God killed them in the midst of Judah, and the children prevailed because of their reliance on God (2 Chronicles 13:1-18)

OBJECTIVE #5: The Significance of Judah

• Out of the tribe of Judah came the savior (Revelation 5:5; Revelation 22:16)
