Corporate Confession of Sin – Lewis Bayly (1575-1631)
“My sin brought about your shame, my failings your injuries. I
committed fault, and you are plagued for the offenses. I am guilty,
and you are charged. I sinned, and you suffered the death. You hung
on the cross. Oh the deepness of God’s love, the wonder of his
grace. Mercy without measure! What can I say? I was proud; you
are humble. I was disobedient; you became obedient. I ate the
forbidden fruit; you hung on the cursed tree. O Lord, let me never
forget your infinite love.”

* Confession of Faith – from The Second Helvetic Confession of Faith
Leader: What do you believe concerning the presence of Christ in the
Supper?
People: “The body of Christ is in heaven at the right hand of the Father;
and therefore our hearts are to be lifted up on high, and not to be
fixed on the bread, neither is the Lord to be worshipped in the
bread. Yet the Lord is not absent from his Church when she
celebrates the Supper. The sun, which is absent from us in the
heavens, is notwithstanding effectually present among us. How
much more is the Sun of Righteousness, Christ, although in his
body he is absent from us in heaven, present with us, not bodily,
but spiritually, by his vivifying operation…so it follows that we
do not have the Supper without Christ, and yet at the same time
have an un-bloody and mystical Supper.”
