Luke 2:1--21
“A God wink Christmas”
1. Recognizing the hand of the Lord.
What is the true meaning of Christmas?
2. The last known prophet was Malachi 440-430 BC.
Do we expect a miracle today?
3. The events as they unfolded.
Galatians 4:4-5
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law.
2 Samuel 2:12-13 A king to the line of David.
Hebrews 1:1-9 A Son whose kingdom never ends.
4. Angels announced the pregnancy to Mary and Joseph.
Matthew 1:18-25
The miracles of His birth begin.
5. A decree was issued by Caesar Augustus.
It was not possible that the messiah could be born in Nazareth. It must take place in Bethlehem.
So God works the next miracle through an unexpected agent.
The story continues in Luke 2:1-21.
6. There was no room for them in the Inn.
Luke 2:6-7
And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
7. The Shepherds and the Angels
Luke 2:8-11
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
8. A sign was given
Luke 2:12-14
And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
9. God’s witnesses to the Birth of His son.
Luke 2:15-21
And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
10. God’s ways are not our ways.
The real meaning of Christmas is that God sent his Son his only Son into the world.
He is the savior of the world.
Immanuel God with us.
Conclusions:
·Christmas is good tidings of great joy for all people
It is a message the Son of God,
Immanuel has been born.
He is Jesus - Christ the Lord.
Conclusions continued:
The events of Christmas are a sign for all people.
The miracle of Christmas is that God works and gives the whole world a sign that His Son has been born who has come to save us from our sins.
