He Humbled Himself – The Word Became Flesh Philippians 2:1-11 and John 1:1-14

Introduction
Philippians 2:5-11 is the Christmas Story told in a unique way. It is the story of the need for the Lord Jesus to ‘empty Himself’ of His right to be glorified as GOD in order to become a man. But He did so because He is HUMBLE. The first five verses of Phil. 2 exhort us to have that same mindset as Jesus did. Now we’re ready to study (survey) the details of the “incarnation” given in John 1:1-18

* The Word – Before Time/Creation – Jn. 1:1-2
The Greek word “LOGOS” (λογος) –means more than “word.” It means “all that is involved with communicating a great truth” – which makes it the perfect word to describe the incarnation of the 2nd person of the Eternal Godhead
The Logos was in the Beginning (He is eternal)
The Logos was with “God the Father” – but was NOT God, The Father
The Logos is a member of the ETERNAL GODHEAD
The Logos is a PERSON (“He”)
* The Word – The Person of the Godhead Who Created Everything – Jn. 1:3
The Logos is THE CREATOR
* The Word – Life (in Himself) and Light (of men) – Jn. 1:4-9
Life and Light are both ‘of’ the Logos
The Logos provides life and light to mankind and “believing” in Him is the key
* The Word – Rejected by His Own – Jn. 1:10-11
The sad fact is that the Logos came to His own people (the Jews) and they rejected Him
* The Word – Gives Believers Right to Become Children of God – Jn. 1:12-13
The marvelous truth is that even though the Jews rejected Him, anyone, anywhere who does receive Him (believes in Him) will be given the right to become a Child of God
* The Word – Became Flesh and Lived Here on Earth – Jn. 1:14
The ‘Hinge” or “Lynchpin” of this whole set of truths is that “THE WORD BECAME FLESH.”
We ‘see’ God when we ‘behold’ the Logos
* The Word – The Only Begotten Son of God Has Declared Him – Jn. 1:15-18
Jesus, The Christ IS the Logos! When we look at Him, we SEE GOD! He makes GOD known to mankind!
