Song # 1496.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Job we read in chapter 34 that God shatters the mighty and sets others in their place, for evildoers cannot hide from God.
His eyes are on the ways of men, He sees their every step (Job 34:21). There is no dark place, no deep shadow, where evildoers can hide (Job 34:22). God has no need to examine men further, that they should come before Him for judgement (Job 34:23). Without enquiry He shatters the mighty and sets up others in their place (Job 34:24). Because He takes note of their deeds, He overthrows them in the night and they are crushed (Job 34:25). He punishes them for their wickedness where everyone can see them (Job 34:26), because they turned from following Him and had no regard for any of His ways (Job 34:27). They caused the cry of the poor to come before Him, so that He heard the cry of the needy (Job 34:28). He is over man and nation alike (Job 34:29), to keep a godless man from ruling, from laying snares for the people (Job 34:30).
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands.
Thought for the future: our prayer relies on faith, while our faith relies on prayer. Where will you spend your eternity?
