Song # 1580.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Acts in chapter 4 that those who believed in Jesus shared their possessions. Some even sold their land, while others sold their house, with the money given to the Apostles to benefit those in need.
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No-one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had (Acts 4:32). With great power the Apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all (Acts 4:33). There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales (Acts 4:34), and put it at the Apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need (Acts 4:35). Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, who the Apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement) (Acts 4:36), sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the Apostles’ feet (Acts 4:37).
Thought for today: would you sell your property and share the profits with those in need?
Thought for the future: the more we look to heaven, the less we need on earth. Where will you spend your eternity?
