Song # 1608.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Acts chapter 7 and 8 we read of the death of Stephen, and the persecution of the Church in Jerusalem by Saul.
Stephen fell to his knees and he fell asleep (Acts 7:60). And Saul was there, giving approval to his death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the Church at Jerusalem, and all except the Apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria (Acts 8:1). Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him (Acts 8:2). But Saul began to destroy the Church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison (Acts 8:3). Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went (Acts 8:4). Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there (Acts 8:5). When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said (Acts 8:6). With shrieks, evil spirits came out of many, and many paralytics and cripples were healed (Acts 8:7). So there was great joy in that city (Acts 8:8).
Thought for today: the world may not love God, but God loves the world.
Thought for the future: God’s help is only a prayer away. Where will you spend your eternity?
