Song # 1614.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians we read that there are problems with Christian life and faith within the Church that Paul established in Corinth. Paul is saying that those who are wise in worldly things are “fools” while those who are wise in heavenly things are “wise”, even though they may be thought of as “fools” by the world’s standards.
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16). If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple (1 Corinthians 3:17). Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool” so that he may become wise (1 Corinthians 3:18). For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written “He catches the wise in their craftiness” (1 Corinthians 3:19), and again “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile” (1 Corinthians 3:20). So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours (1 Corinthians 3:21), whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future - all are yours (1 Corinthians 3:22), and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God (1 Corinthians 3:23).
Thought for today: we can’t see God’s hand, but we can trust His heart.
Thought for the future: Jesus knows the way, so follow Him for ever lasting life. Where will you spend your eternity?
