Song # 1663.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Revelation we read that John was told by the Lord to write to the seven Churches. These were located in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. In chapter 3, we read in John’s letter to the Church in Philadelphia* that he tells them that the Lord can open what no-one can shut, and He can shut what no-one can open. Even though John’s letters were written some 2,000 years ago, his message is still very relevant to us today.
These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no-one can shut, and what He shuts no-one can open (Revelation 3:7). He knows your deeds and has placed before you an open door that no-one can shut. He knows that you have little strength, yet you have kept His word and not denied His Name (Revelation 3:8). He will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars- He will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that the Lord has loved you (Revelation 3:9). Since you have kept His command to endure patiently, He will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth (Revelation 3:10). The Lord is coming soon. Hold onto what you have, so that no-one will take your crown (Revelation 3:11). Those who have faith, He will make a pillar in the temple of God. Never again will he leave it (Revelation 3:12).
*Philadelphia is located east of Sardis and north west of Laodicea.
Thought for today: eyes of faith see God’s work.
Thought for the future: when God forgives, He restores the soul. Where will you spend your eternity?
