Song # 1674.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Gospel of Luke we learn that John the Baptist was born to Elizabeth some six months before Jesus was born to Mary.
An Angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah, standing at the right side of the altar of incense (Luke 1:11). When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and gripped with fear (Luke 1:12). But the Angel said to him “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name of John” (Luke 1:13). “He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth” (Luke 1:14), “for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth” (Luke 1:15). “Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God” (Luke 1:16). “And he will go on before the Lord, in the Spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous - to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (Luke 1:17).
Thought for today: Jesus knows the way, so follow Him for eternity.
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?
