Song # 1681.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Hebrews we read in chapter 3 that the Holy Spirit tells us not to harden our hearts, if we hear the Lord’s voice, and not to be unbelievers like those Moses led out of Egypt and who turned their backs on God.
So, as the Holy Spirit says “Today, if you hear His voice” (Hebrews 3:7), “do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert” (Hebrews 3:8), “where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did” (Hebrews 3:9). “That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways’ ” (Hebrews 3:10). “So I declared on oath in anger ‘They shall never enter my rest’ ” (Hebrews 3:11). See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God (Hebrews 3:12). But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness (Hebrews 3:13). We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first (Hebrews 3:14). As has just been said “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion” (Hebrews 3:15). Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? (Hebrews 3:16). And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? (Hebrews 3:17). And to whom did God swear that they would never enter His rest if not to those who disobeyed? (Hebrews 3:18).
Thought for today: God tests our faith so we can trust in His faithfulness.
Thought for the future: when you know the truth, then you will know what is false. Where will you spend your eternity?
