Because of His oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant (Hebrews 7:22). Now there have been many priests, but death prevented them from continuing in office (Hebrews 7:23), and because Jesus lives for ever, He has a permanent priesthood (Hebrews 7:24). Therefore Jesus is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them (Hebrews 7:25). Such a High Priest meets our needs, One who is blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, and exalted above the heavens (Hebrews 7:26). Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for His own sins, and then for the sins of the people. Jesus sacrificed for their sins once for all when He offered Himself (Hebrews 7:27). For the law appoints as priests men who are weak, but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect for ever (Hebrews 7:28).
