Song # 1740.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Exodus we read in chapter 20 that God instructs Moses to tell the Israelites not to make gods of silver or gold, but to build an altar of earth, or undressed stones, to sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings.
The Lord said to Moses “Tell the Israelites this ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven’ (Exodus 20:22). ‘Do not make any gods to be alongside me, do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold’ (Exodus 20:23). ‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and cattle. Wherever I cause my Name to be honoured, I will come to you and bless you’ (Exodus 20:24). ‘If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it’ ” (Exodus 20:25).
Thought for today: we can’t see God’s hand, but we can trust His heart.
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?
