Song # 1750.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Deuteronomy we read in chapter 27 about the many curses that God will bring upon those who break the law that He has given to the Israelites through His servant Moses.
Moses, with the Levite priests, said to all Israel “You have now become the people of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 27:9). “Obey the Lord your God and follow His commands and decrees that I give you today” (Deuteronomy 27:10). “Cursed is the man who carves an image or casts an idol - a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of the craftsman’s hands - and sets it up in secret” (Deuteronomy 27:15). “Cursed is the man who dishonours his father or his mother” (Deuteronomy 27:16). Cursed is the man who moves his neighbor’s boundary stone” (Deuteronomy 27:17). “Cursed is the man who leads the blind astray on the road” (Deuteronomy 27:18). “Cursed is the man who withholds justice from the alien, the fatherless or the widow” (Deuteronomy 27:19). “Cursed is the man who kills his neighbor secretly” (Deuteronomy 27:24). “Cursed is the man who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person” (Deuteronomy 27:25). “Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of the law by carrying them out” (Deuteronomy 27:26).
Thought for today: though the law of Moses was created thousands of years ago, it is still very relevant to us today as the backbone of our culture and harmonious living.
Thought for the future: when God forgives He restores the soul, so face your sins, repent and put them behind you. Where will you spend your eternity?
