Song # 1785 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of 1 Kings we read in chapter 1 that king David has Solomon anointed as the new king of Israel and Judah.
King David said to Bathsheba (1 Kings 1:28), “Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place” (1 Kings 1:29). King David said to Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet (1 Kings 1:32), “Take your lord’s servants with you and set Solomon on my own mule and take him down to Gihon” (1 Kings 1:33). “There shall Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel. Blow the trumpet and shout ‘Long live king Solomon!’” (1 Kings 1:34). “Then he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah” (1 Kings 1:35). Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon. Then they sounded the trumpet and all the people shouted “Long live king Solomon!” (1 Kings 1:39). And all the people went up to him, playing flutes and rejoicing greatly, so that the ground shook with the sound (1 Kings 1:40). Jonathan said “Our lord king David has made Solomon king” (1 Kings 1:43). “Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon. From there they have gone up cheering, and the city resounds with it” (1 Kings 1:45).
