Song # 1890.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. You have probably heard the old saying ‘Build upon the Rock, and not upon the sand.’ In the Book of Matthew, we read in chapter 16 that Jesus told Simon Peter, son of Jonah, that Peter is the Rock upon which Jesus will build His Church.
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” (Matthew 16:13). They replied “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets” (Matthew 16:14). “But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15). Simon Peter answered “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). Jesus replied “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 16:17). “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:18). “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). Then Jesus warned His disciples not to tell anyone He was the Christ (Matthew 16:20).
Thought for today: God showed His love for us when He came to earth as a man.
Thought for the future: for eternal life, it’s not what you know, but who you know. Where will you spend your eternity?
