Song # 1910.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Matthew we read in chapter 22 that Jesus was asked by a Pharisee - what is the greatest commandment in the law.
The Pharisees got together (Matthew 22:34), and one of them, an expert in the law, tested Jesus with this question (Matthew 22:35), “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36). Jesus replied “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). “This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:38). “And the second is like this ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:39). “All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:40). While the Pharisees were together, Jesus asked them (Matthew 22:41), “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” The Pharisees replied “The Son of David” (Matthew 22:42). Jesus said to the Pharisees “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls Him ‘Lord’? For he says” (Matthew 22:43). “’The Lord said to my ‘Lord’ - ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet’” (Matthew 22:44). “Then if David calls Him ‘Lord’, how can He be his son?” (Matthew 22:45).
Thought for today: wise men build bridges while fools build walls.
Thought for the future: Christ’s death gives us courage today and hope for tomorrow. Where will you spend your eternity?
