Song # 1914.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Luke in chapter 20 and 21 that Jesus tells His disciples to beware of the teachers of the law, and about the widow’s gift which was all she had to live on.
Jesus said to His disciples “Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the market-places and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets” (Luke 20:46). They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely” (Luke 20:47). As Jesus looked up, He saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury (Luke 21:1). He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins (Luke 21:2). “I tell you the truth” Jesus said “this poor widow has put in more than the others” (Luke 21:3). All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on” (Luke 21:4).
Thought for today: we may not have all we want, but with God, we have all we need.
Thought for the future: to be with Jesus in heaven will be our greatest joy. Where will you spend your eternity?
